A very pregnant Chelsea Clinton found herself in the crosshairs of an angry student at a multi-faith vigil at NYU for the shooting victims of Christchurch. The student, wearing a Bernie Sanders 2020 tee, shook her finger and hollered in Chelsea’s face, blaming her for instigating the massacre in NZ. And what was this instigation to mass murder? Chelsea’s response to a Tweet by Ilhan Omar’s that was widely criticized as anti-Semitic.

So what to make of this? It seems to exemplify the coarsening of our political space, our lack of empathy for each other, our need to be right over our need to be kind, our inability to find a common thread of humanity even while we attend events to mourn those who died because of hatred.
